Content of the testing

What is content of the testing?

We use a material sample to test the release of nickel. Testing is done based on DIN EN 1811 and according to the legal requirements of the EU Regulation 1907/2006.

This ensures that your products do not pose any health risks to your customers due to Nickel release from jewelry.

For testing your products for nickel release after abrasion simulation according to DIN EN 12472, we offer testing for nickel 2.

Which limits must be hold?

Legal limit: 0.2 μg / cm2 / week for all post assemblies that are inserted into pierced ears or other pierced body parts.

0.5 μg / cm2 / week in products that come in direct and prolonged contact with skin.

Test process

  1. Order at the online shop

    Configure your desired individual chemical test in the TÜV Rheinland business client online shop and send us your purchase order.

  2. Delivery of material sample

    Please note that you must send the number of test samples/material samples required for testing to TÜV Rheinland at your own cost. For the exact location, please refer to the accompanying note for the test sample.

    Please enclose the accompanying note for the test sample (attachment of your order confirmation) with your test sample shipment or, for large shipments, attach it on the outside of the outer packaging.  This allows us to quickly and easily match your sample with your order. Receipt and registration of the test sample happens at the respective laboratory site. The same applies for the weighing of the materials to be tested, which is based on the amount of the sample required for the test (material sample collection)

  3. Testing

    The chemical testing of the material samples is performed in our DIN EN ISO 17025 accredited laboratories according to legal and standard market requirements. The chemical testing inevitably destroys the samples, and they cannot be reused.

  4. Sending of test results

    Analysis of the measurement results and documentation of the results in a test report.

  • Composite sample
    As a general rule, composite samples are prepared to shorten the processing times. A composite sample consists of up to three individual materials in one sample, which are combined in equal parts and are subjected together to a specific chemical test. The number of samples mixed depends on the requirements.
  • Retests
    Preparing composite samples generally bears the risk that the result of the composite sample may show deviations, suggesting that at least one of the individual materials does not comply with the legal or standard market limits. To determine which of the materials within a composite sample had caused the deviation, all materials of the composite sample must be individually retested. This leads to additional costs which are the responsibility of the client.
